Scuba Diving

Mozambique is one of the top 10 diving destinations in the world, with pristine reefs & a mesmerizing underwater world. The diving around the Bazaruto Archipelago islands has been described as nothing short of magnificent. Needs to be experienced!

With expansive areas of natural coral, crystal clear waters for underwater visibility & an ocean that is teeming with sea life, shipwrecks, canyons & caves, Mauritius is a natural choice for diving addicts & fantastic dive opportunities can be found all around the island.

Snorkeling

There are several stunning snorkeling places around the Bazaruto Archipelago islands, just off of Vilankulo. The most famous one is The Aquarium (West of two mile reef.)

Except for the southern coast, Mauritius is surrounded by a coral reef & is therefore an excellent destination for snorkeling, with several top spots including Blue Bay, Flic en Flac & Trou aux Biches.

Fishing

If you are a fisherman (or woman), consider either of these places the ideal place to be. The deep-sea fishing in both these places is world renowned & you will enjoy the adrenaline rush of some unforgettable catches.

Dhow & Catamaran trips to nearby islands

Whale Watching & Swimming with Dolphins

In Vilankulo, if you head out into the sea between July and October you’ll have a chance to see migrating hump back whales who mate and calve in these warm waters.

In Mauritius, these trips are done by speed boat year round.

Whale encounters & the ability to observe these magnificent marine mammals is an incredibly moving experience. An equally amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience is swimming with wild dolphins possible off the west coast of Mauritius in Tamarin Bay, but more common in the South of Mozambique.

Kite Surfing

Casa Rex is the base for kite surfing in Vilankulo! Try a kite surfing baptism, learn how to kite surf level 1 and level 2 or hire equipment and join a kiting safari.

Le Morne Kite School in Mauritius operates a world class kiteboarding training centre, although there are also centres in Bel Ombre in the South & the fishing village of Grand Gaube in the North. Elevate your senses & experience this adrenaline watersport!

Stand Up Paddling

Experience one of the ultimate water activities. Suitable for beginners or more experienced paddlers, families, or individuals. The blue and calm waters of the Indian Ocean are ideal for board paddling, and both destinations perfect for this calm & therapeutic pastime.

Sunset Cruise

The market is the ideal place to purchase capolana’s (traditional patterned fabric) & just about anything else for a cheaper price than the local supermarkets including fresh fish.!

Mauritius is also home to several local markets  – some dedicated to  textile products, others like the central bazaar in Port Louis offering a huge selection from local crafted jewelry to exotic foods, cheap produce & interesting arts & crafts.

Horse Riding

Ride along the beach, and even  swim with the horses – available in both Vilankulo & Mauritius.  A great way to experience nature firsthand, and a must for horse lovers. A most pleasurable way to spend a morning or afternoon.

Massages & Spas

If you really want to treat yourself during your stay in Vilankulo… there are a few masseuses in town and they can come to Casa Rex, so you don’t even have to travel. Pampering treatments available to make you feel in top form.

In Mauritius, hiking up the mountain ranges is very popular with some breathtaking views once you reach the top. Black River Gorges in the west is one of these spots, also with a stunning waterfalls.
